The booster pump is the heart of any Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purifier. It is responsible for pressurizing the tap water to force it through the semi-permeable RO membrane. If your booster pump is failing, your purification system will slow down to a crawl, or stop producing purified water altogether.
Signs of a Failing RO Booster Pump:
- Very Slow Water Flow: If it takes hours to fill a small storage tank, the pump may not be generating enough pressure (minimum 60-80 PSI required for RO membranes).
- Constant Reject Water: If reject water keeps flowing continuously but the clean water tank remains empty, the pump is struggling.
- Loud or Vibrating Noises: Over time, the internal bearings of the pump wear out, causing squealing, clicking, or loud vibrating sounds inside the cabinet.
Average Lifespan and Maintenance:
A high-quality RO booster pump usually lasts between 2 to 4 years, depending on usage and incoming water pressure. You can prolong its life by replacing pre-filters on time (preventing dirt from clogging the pump head) and using a voltage stabilizer if your area experiences frequent power surges.
